How do I set up my Tennessee Tech account?
We encourage you to read through this article and follow along with the user tutorial when setting up your Tennessee Tech account.
Please be sure to:
- Be at a computer or tablet
- Have your Tennessee Tech email address that you received from the university
- Have your Tech ID Number that you received from the university
- Have a mobile device with Microsoft Authenticator already installed
To set up your account, you can navigate to TechExpress by going to https://express.tntech.edu, or by going to the TnTech Home page and clicking the "Express" hyperlink in the upper left side of the screen.
Step 1: Enter your Tennessee Tech email address and click Next.
Step 2: Insert your password and click Sign in.
If you're logging in for the first time, your password will be set to a default password. This password will be z?T# where the # is the eight digits of your T-number. For instance, if your T-number is T99999999, your initial password will be z?T99999999. Click Sign in.
Step 3: Click Next to begin setting up your Multi-Factor Authentication. For assistance, see the related articles on the right for more information on completing these steps.
Step 4: Set your password (enter your current password, which is the default password, enter your new password and confirm it). Click Sign in.
Since implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA), Tennessee Tech University has updated its password complexity requirements to better align with
NIST SP 800-63B. Tennessee Tech's password requirements are as follows:
- The minimum password length is 16 characters, and the maximum size is 256 characters.
- Passwords can NOT contain the user name.
- Passwords can NOT contain more than three consecutive characters (Examples: abcdefghijklmnop and 12345678910111213)
- Password must not be easily guessable. (Examples: P@$sW0rD123456!@#$ and !QAZ@WSX1qaz2wsx) If the password is common or has been seen by Microsoft too many times, you will get an error message asking you to choose another password. For more information on how your password is evaluated, please visit the Microsoft Article, Password protection in Azure Active Directory
- While there is no requirement to do so, we recommend using a passphrase that contains a mixture of characters. (Examples: KingKongLikes1000BananaTrees! and AtlasShruggedisLongat1088Pages!)
Congratulations! You should now be logged in to your Tennessee Tech account.
