Forgot Your Password?
If you forgot your password, there is an easy way to reset it. This tutorial will walk you through confirming your identity and resetting your password.
Remember: If you do not have at least two Multi-Factor Authentication methods set up, you will not be able to do a self-service password reset. If this is the case, please call the IT Help Desk at 931-372-3975 to have your password reset and to receive assistance setting up your MFA methods.
- Enter your tntech.edu email account (TechExpress account username).
- Try entering the last password you can remember. If it is incorrect, click reset it now and then click Sign in. Conversely, you can also click "Forgot my password."
- To verify you are who you say you are, correctly answer the question below and then click Next.
- After clicking next, you will progress through Verification Step 1. You will see your MFA methods on the left side; choose one of those to start the process. Shown below are the Microsoft Authenticator and Text Message/Phone methods. Approve a notification on my authenticator app is selected, click Send Notification.
- Once verification step 1 is complete, choose another method from the list on the left. Text my mobile phone is selected. Enter your 10-digit mobile phone number and click Text.
- Enter the six-digit code sent to your mobile device and click Next.
- After completing both verification steps, enter a new password, confirm the new password, and click Finish.
Since implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA), Tennessee Tech University has updated its password complexity requirements to better align with
NIST SP 800-63B. Tennessee Tech's password requirements are as follows:
- The minimum password length is 16 characters, and the maximum size is 256 characters
- Passwords can NOT contain the user name.
- Passwords can NOT contain more than three consecutive characters (Examples: abcdefghijklmnop and 12345678910111213)
- Password must not be easily guessable. (Examples: P@$sW0rD123456!@#$ and !QAZ@WSX1qaz2wsx) If the password is common or has been seen by Microsoft too many times, you will get an error message asking you to choose another password. For more information on how your password is evaluated, please visit the Microsoft Article, Password protection in Azure Active Directory
- While there is no requirement to do so, we recommend using a passphrase that contains a mixture of characters. (Examples: KingKongLikes1000BananaTrees! and AtlasShruggedisLongat1088Pages!)
- You will be presented with this screen; choose Click Here.
- You will be taken back to the sign-in screen to sign in with your credentials.
