How to Find your MAC Address

Your Media Access Control (MAC) address uniquely identifies your device on any network it's connected to, kinda like a T number for your phone! This article walks you through finding your MAC address on various types of devices that you may have.

A MAC address lets us identify your device on the network and make sure you can get connected when you need to. You may be asked for one if you have issues with Eaglenet or connecting to the Internet on campus. 

 

Finding your MAC Address on a Laptop

Windows

1. Click the Windows button in the bottom left corner
2. Type Command Prompt, and select the app that pops up
3. In the Command Prompt window, type ipconfig/all and press enter
4. Locate the Physical Address in the information provided. This is your MAC address

 

Mac

1. Open the Apple Menu at the top left corner of your screen
2. Select System Preferences
3. Select Network
4. Click Advanced down at the bottom of the window
5. Make sure Wi-Fi is selected at the bar on the top
6. Find Wi-Fi Address at the bottom of the window. This is your MAC address

 

Finding your MAC Address on a Phone or Tablet

iPhone / iPad

1. Go to the Settings menu on your phone
2. Select General
3. Select About
4. Then scroll down until you see Wi-Fi Address. This is your MAC address

 

Android

Every version of Android works a little differently, but these steps may guide you in the right direction. If they don't work perfectly, just Google MAC Address and your model of phone for more specific instructions.

1. Open Settings
2. Select Network and Internet
3. Select Wi-Fi
4. Select More Options or Wi-Fi preferences
5. Scroll down 
6. Your MAC Address should be listed towards the bottom of the page

 

Finding your MAC Address on a Gaming Console

Ways to access your MAC Address vary greatly by console. Please check the list below to locate the MAC address of your specific system

Xbox One

1. Start on the Home Screen
2. Open Settings
3. Select All Settings
4. Select Network
5. Then Network Settings
6. Select Advanced Settings
7. If your Xbox is connected via Ethernet, please select the Wired MAC Address option
8. If your Xbox is connected via WiFi, select the Wireless MAC Address option

 

PS5

1. On the Home Screen of your PS5, select the Settings gear at the top
2. Then select Network
3. Select View Connection Status
4. If your PS5 is connected via Ethernet, please select the MAC Address (LAN cable) option
5. If your PS5 is connected via WiFi, select the MAC Address (Wi-Fi) option

 

Nintendo Switch

1. On the Home Screen of your PS5, select the System Settings icon
2. Then select Internet
3. Your MAC Address should be located under System MAC Address

 

Xbox 360

1. Click the Xbox button on your controller
2. Navigate to the Settings tab
3. Select System Settings
4. Go to Network Settings
5. If your Xbox is connected via Ethernet, please select the Wired Network option, if your Xbox is connected via WiFi, select the Wireless Network option
6. Select Configure Network
7. Navigate to Additional Settings
8. Select Advanced Settings
9. Your MAC Address will be located towards the bottom of the window

 

PS4

1. On the Home Screen of your PS4, select the Settings toolbox icon at the top
2. Then select System
3. Then select System Information
4. If your PS4 is connected via Ethernet, please select the MAC Address (LAN cable) option
5. If your PS4 is connected via WiFi, select the MAC Address (Wi-Fi) option

 

PS3

1. On the Home Screen of your PS3, scroll to the Settings toolbox icon at the top
2. Then scroll to Network Settings
3. Then select Settings and Connection Status List
4. Your MAC Address will be included in the list provided

 

PS Vita

1. On the Home Screen of your PS Vita, scroll to the Settings toolbox icon at the top
2. Then scroll to System
3. Then select System Information
4. Your MAC Address will be listed below

 

3DS

1. On the Home Screen of your 3DS, select the System Settings wrench icon
2. Select Internet Settings
3. Then Nintendo DS Connections
4. Select Options
5. Then select System Information
6. Your MAC Address will be listed below

 

Wii

1. On the Home Screen of your Wii, select the Wii Options (Wii) icon
2. Select Wii Settings
3. Then Internet
4. Select Console Information
5. Your MAC Address will be listed below

 

WiiU

1. On the Home Screen of your WiiU, select the WiiU Menu
2. Select a user
3. Then the System Settings menu with the wrench icon
4. Select Internet
5. Then View MAC Address
