This article covers steps for modifying the time zone on Windows, macOS, iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android, and Chromebook devices. You may want to change your time zone after arriving on campus for the first time, or if you are traveling internationally and experiencing difficulties staying logged into TechExpress.
Tennessee Tech is located in the US-Central (UTC -06:00) time zone, often linked to Chicago, though it may be listed as Central Daylight Time (UTC -05:00) if Daylight Savings Time is in effect (mid-March to early November). If you are overseas and getting logged out of TechExpress shortly after logging in, you may need to manually set your device's time zone to US-Central.
Windows
- Search your applications for Date & Time settings and open it
- Scroll down to the Time zone pull-down menu
- Select (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)
macOS
- Open System Preferences (or Settings)
- Click Date & Time
- If you are traveling internationally and need to set your time zone to US-Central, uncheck "Set time zone automatically using current location"
- Mouse over the United States and place the pin just right of center. The Time Zone should say Central Standard Time or Central Daylight Time.

- Select General
- Select Date & Time
- Toggle "Set Automatically" to the Off position if you are traveling internationally and need to set your time zone manually
- Enter Chicago for the time zone

- Expand the Advanced menu
- Click Date and time
- Click Time zone
